Your Travel Experience with Peru Pro
Day 1
Visit the famous Inca ruin Machu Picchu
n the morning, you’ll be picked up at your hotel in Cusco and taken to the train station in Poroy or Ollantaytambo. There, you’ll board the train that takes you past small villages and through the beautiful landscape of the Urubamba Valley to Aguas Calientes. Once you arrive at the train station, you’ll walk a short distance to the bus station, where a shuttle bus will take you up the winding roads in about 20 minutes to the most fantastic ruins in all of South America. Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of the Incas,” was built in the 15th century at an elevation of 2,430 meters on a mountain ridge and was not rediscovered until 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham. After a thorough tour of the various areas featuring temples and terraces, you’ll take the shuttle bus back to Aguas Calientes.

Day 2
2nd visit of Machu Picchu and return by train back to Cusco
Today you have the opportunity to explore Machu Picchu once again on your own (without a tour guide). We recommend having an early breakfast and then taking the shuttle bus up to the ruins right afterward. With a little luck, you’ll be able to explore Machu Picchu before the first tourists arrive by train from Cusco or Ollantaytambo. For the more adventurous, we recommend climbing Huayna Picchu (tickets must be purchased in advance). Or you can hike to the Sun Gate (Inti Punko), a former checkpoint from which you can enjoy a magnificent view of Machu Picchu. In the afternoon, you’ll take the shuttle bus back to Aguas Calientes to catch your train back to Poroy or Ollantaytambo. At the train station, you’ll be met and taken to your hotel in Cusco.
