Day 1
Transfer
The day begins early in the morning. Your tour guide/driver will collect you from your hotel and the journey to Napo will begin.
Along the way, you will stop at various locations chosen by the tour guide/driver to observe key wildlife species in the region, which, with a bit of luck, you may also be able to photograph.
Bird watching at San Isidro Lodge
You will arrive in the afternoon and, at first glance, find yourself surrounded by hummingbirds and other colourful birds. After a short break, the walk along the San Isidro nature trail begins – a guided tour where you may occasionally spot mountain tapirs along the path and at the salt lick next to the dining room. Before dinner, you will return to your room to freshen up.
At 6.30 pm, we meet on the veranda of the main dining room to take a short walk before dinner – the perfect time to spot owls, frogs, strange insects and nocturnal mammals such as night monkeys. At dinner, you will be officially welcomed with an Ecuadorian hot toddy, made from an infusion of local leaves and a dash of sugar cane schnapps.
Day 2
Hike to the river, blowpipe shooting, archery or fishing(optional)
After breakfast, you can walk down to the river along a footpath. The Cosanga River awaits you at a beautiful sandy beach; in good weather, a dip in the river is an invigorating and refreshing experience. You’ll be back at the lodge in time for lunch.
After a lunch break, the following optional activities are available in the afternoon: craft or cooking classes (for children), archery or blowpipe target practice, trout fishing, a heated pool and a fireplace.
After dinner, you can watch the colourful moths that have settled in.
Day 3
Birdwatching, a visit to a waterfall; lunch and departure.
On the final day, you’ll have the chance to go birdwatching early in the morning in the lodge’s gardens, which are bustling with activity. You’ll then paddle through a beautiful forest stream that leads to a woodland path, taking us to a shallow, natural pool fed by a small waterfall. For those who’d prefer to stay at the lodge, there are optional afternoon activities to choose from.
Transfer
After lunch (optional), you will be picked up by your San Isidro Lodge tour guide/driver and continue your journey to your next destination.
