Your Travel Experience with Peru Pro

As early as 1978, UNESCO declared Quito's Old Town as the first city in the world to be a World Heritage Site. Quito is famous for having the largest intact, undamaged and well integrated colonial city in South America. The unique city abounds with colonial townhouses, as well as countless churches and monasteries. The deep-rooted influence of the Catholic Church is still visible today.

The tour begins in the heart of the colonial old town on the Plaza de la Independencia, also called Plaza Grande. Here you can watch the bustle of the locals, visit the presidential palace and stroll through the small, winding streets. Continue to Plaza San Francisco and the grandiose La Compañia church, begun in 1605 by the Order of the Jesuits.

Afterwards, make your way to the cable car Teleferico - offering beautiful views as it goes up from the outskirts to a high plateau at around 4,000m on the Pichincha volcano. Hike to the summit for more gorgeous views over the city.

Finally, visit the Botanical Gardens in the north of the city. Wander through the lush gardens, discovering the weird and wonderful plants of Ecuador. The orchid garden is especially worth seeing if you won't be touring the entire country of Ecuador!
